Natural Shelter
Banded Lapwings are sighted in new developments where urban areas encroach on their habitat. They are active at night and often spotted running across roads in these newer suburbs.
Banded Lapwings build nests on the ground and lay their eggs in a shallow depression in the sand or grass. They prefer to live in open areas with tall grass.

Providing natural sources of food
Banded Lapwings eat the insect and invertebrates they find living in tall grassy areas. If their are Banded Lapwings in your area, plant plenty of clumping grasses to provide additional foraging habitat.
Providing sources of water
Banded Lapwings are not known to visit bird baths. There are occasional reports where Banded Lapwings have visited shallow water containers left on the ground.
